Cold Ash conifer work: assess the whole hedge

On Leylandii and many other conifers, a deep side cut can expose old bare wood that does not refill. The suitable shape is limited by the existing growth, so the intended finish needs to be discussed before substantial cutting.

For a hedge already at a manageable size, regular care focuses on retaining the agreed profile. Flowering hedges or mixed sections should be identified separately because the same timing may not suit every plant.
